Patrie

One of Bill Maher's favorite causes is to talk about how it is patriotic to question one's country as that demonstrates a notion of love for country. It seems important to remember that while David Petraeus comes to testify. At the beginning even the liberal press was willing to give Petraeus a bit of credit despite bashing the circumstances that he was placed in. So here is to hoping that the right questions get asked!

But Eddie Vedder continues to impress. Eddie Vedder and Phil Donahue could do a show about the long term effects of flannel but instead they do this Body of War. My word that looks good and the song is good too, this is another one he sung in Portland 4 years ago now.

And another from A.A. Bondy which can be found on one of my very favorite albums from last year. There's a Reason is probably the biggest song off of it. But here is one for all the patriots.

Noir et Blanc

You have to check out the speech, its even worth a read. And the reason I'm there is for both Ashley and the unnamed man. Everyone is coming together and its great. But taking on the language of resentment of whites for Obama was well done and reminded me of this Two Gallants song and the flack they caught for taking on the language of black anger. Anyway its a song so listen!

Putain

As you may come to expect Start From Ici has ripped this weeks post straight from the headlines. It's a damn shame it's made a man cry. I bet you are all expecting Jane Says or Roxanne and despite this being a project I have been thinking about for some time I can do no better than The Beatles vs The Rolling Stones.

Instead of those versions, which we have all heard so many times how about Melaine doing Ruby Tuesday?

And this one I found on Youtube, Amber Nash with Lady Madonna. Because who really needs a saxophone anyway.

Iraq War

I just recently read that we are about to hit another big round number in terms of US soldier casualties in Iraq. Most likely sometime in March or early April there will have been 4000 soldiers killed. Of course that doesn't count at all the civilians. Well I thought that beginning this had to start with a couple of songs about this.

One could easily have missed the first song as it was hidden at the end of their album Passover but the Black Angels have put down a pretty good one about the war. Also the record gets a 9 out of 10 on the Rockometer from someone who would know.

Then yeah this second song just popped up to me from that rather good soundtrack. But with the sneaky lyric FUCK BUSH AND FUCK THIS WAR it merits a listen.
